An Outstanding Performance!
Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix was honored to perform at the 2016 Western Division of the American Choral Directors Association Conference (ACDA) on February 26 in Pasadena, California. This division of ACDA includes five states in the western United States, and membership of the organization is made up of choral educators and artistic leaders from the region.
Orpheus performed a variety of songs including “Sure on This Shining Night” accompanied on the piano by world-renowned composer Morten Lauridsen, who composed this selection.
This achievement of performing at ACDA serves as a milestone in the work and artistic direction of the organization and we are proud to have performed for this prestigious gathering of music educators and professionals.
Orpheus made its debut on Christmas morning 1929 on KTAR-AM and has delighted audiences in venues large and small throughout Arizona and beyond with a diverse mix of classical and popular music, ranging from sacred works to raucous drinking songs. Throughout its rich 87-year history, the chorus has also toured in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, been featured in radio and TV broadcasts, and has sung the National Anthem at professional sporting events and for dignitaries, including John F. Kennedy. Orpheus has gained international acclaim on tours throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
The group has excelled under the baton of Dr. Brook Carter Larson. Prior to becoming Artistic Director for Orpheus, “Doc” taught Choral Music Education classes at Arizona State University, where he also founded the Sun Devil Singers and the ASU Men’s Chorus.
